Military pocket watches along with their civilian equivalents are seeing a huge increase in popularity. Historically they were often used for both land-based and naval applications. During WW2 they were frequently used by RAF and USAAF navigators and bomb aimers (US: Bombardier) in preference to a conventional watch. They often found it easier to place their pocket watch on the chart or bench or in the nose of the aircraft while they were working or approaching the target, the main reason the pocket watch was so popular was that wrist watches at the time were very small and hard to read with an average size of only around 36mm diameter hence the pocket watch’s larger size of not far off 50mm meant that the time could be seen much more easily.
MWC make several variants of this watch with slightly varying specifications to meet the specific requirements of a variety of clients. This variant has a sophisticated hybrid movement combining the characteristics of an automatic watch such as sweep second hand with the benefits of a highly accurate quartz movement. The watch also has two subsidiary dials, one to measure a 24 hour period the other for the date, the watch is also equipped with a hacking feature for synchronization or to enable you to stop the watch running and conserve power if it won't be used for an extended period.
The MWC hybrid pocket watches essentially combine the best of new and traditional watchmaking technology. They encompass features from both our conventional automatic and quartz watches resulting in a hybrid ultra-low maintenance movement. The hybrid movement has a battery powering the movement through coils and a quartz oscillator, but the hands are mechanically actuated and controlled. Essentially the movement is mechanical except it's powered by a battery and regulated by a crystal the only thing it doesn't have is a spring but in terms of feel and outward appearance it looks the same as it’s mechanical sister models.
FREE LEATHER CASE: We have a quantity of leather cases which are slight seconds as pictured, we are including one of these free with each pocket watch while stocks last. Many of these cases have no discernible fault, but some do. Unfortunately our Italian case manufacturer accidentally mixed some seconds in with the regular delivery of cases and we have no way of realistically sorting them out because they are at shipping center hence we are including them free.
